Server shutdown

  • Hi Nightmare, I would like to clarify one point regarding the refund of premium content on the servers that are being closed.

The announcement explains that remaining purchased Crowns will be returned as a coupon, and that premium currency/items already used will not be returned.

However, what happens to unused premium items or premium functions that were obtained by spending purchased Crowns, for example through the official Wheel of Fortune?

In that case the purchased Crowns have already been spent, but they were converted through an official game feature into another premium item/function which may still be completely unused when the server closes.

Also, what happens to already activated premium functions that still have a substantial remaining duration at the time of closure? For example, if a player has Premium Account time already activated which would normally remain active for months or even years beyond the closure date.

Will the unused items and the remaining unused duration of activated premium functions also be compensated or converted into a coupon, or is the compensation limited exclusively to purchased Crowns still visible as Crowns in the account balance at the moment of closure?

    Thank you.

  • It is interesting that all officials talk about coins, coupons and all that kind of things. But no one ist saying something about the players/members. I allready mentioned that in another post. Instead of closing everything there would have been other ways to find solutions to keep servers open. f.e. a minimum amount of Euros that have to be spent per Server per year. And if this goal is not reached - closing is ok for these servers. But just to tell everybody game over is not correct from my point of view. In the end it will be a lose lose result for all. Also for Gameforge. Very few memebers of the worlds which will be closed will not move to new servers. And also not to other Gameforge games, because you never can be sure that the game/world exists longer. And players who play maybe other games will talk their memebers there and tell them about how Gameforge acts here. If I would play another Gameforge Game I would nt invest hard money anymore because it can get lost very fast as we see it here.

And if I would be bad minded I would assume that the latest "Update" was not a mistake but something to make it the players as uncomfortable as possible

  • agree

    agree

and wonder if the players can privately pay GF to keep open the server. That is as if they know how does it costs just to keep it online, without need of changings, but just server fee...

Is nonsense thinking of closing servers with the idea that players will migrate in the new to be opend! as the players are 15 years older and the new rules made this game for players that uses cheats (as add-ons, multiaccounts, etc...) or pay-to-win; so GF will find out that KA is an asset that would be better to sell, rather than to keep it for 10 player per each country!

Shal we buy KA from GF?

PS Deraltefritz, if GF needs money, than is better to create new games rather than closing old games, otherwise it will close himself.

and nobody has understood what you mean "for a european, nothing changes"??

  • I strongly disagree with the decision to simply close and delete the remaining servers.

I have been playing on EN-6 since 2011 — around 15 years. There are still players on the server, and there is still activity. I understand that the server is nowhere near as active as it once was, but that does not mean that the years of time and effort players have invested into it should simply disappear.

KingsAge is a game that requires an enormous time investment. It can literally take many years, even decades, to build an account to the point where you are highly ranked. That long-term progression is a huge part of the game. If everything we have built over 15 years can simply be deleted one day, why would I start again on another server?

I won't. And I suspect many other long-term players will feel the same way.

This also affects how I view other Gameforge games. I play other Gameforge titles and have spent both time and money on them. If I know that years of progress can eventually just be deleted when a server becomes less profitable or less populated, I have to seriously reconsider whether investing that time and money is worthwhile.

There should be a better solution than simply deleting everything.

For example, Gameforge could suspend inactive servers while still allowing players to log in and view their accounts and progress, even if normal gameplay is disabled. Alternatively, give players some way to download or archive their account, cities, statistics, rankings, messages, and other progress so that 15 years of history isn't simply erased.

I would even be willing to pay a reasonable fee if that were necessary to help maintain EN-6 or preserve access to it.

I understand that keeping old servers running indefinitely may have a cost, and I am not expecting Gameforge to operate them at a loss forever. But there is a major difference between ending active support for a server and permanently deleting everything that players have spent years building.

Simply deleting the servers sends a terrible message to long-term players: your time and investment are temporary, and eventually everything you have built can just disappear.

That does not encourage me to move to another server. It does the opposite. It makes me question why I should ever start again.

Please reconsider the closure of EN-6, or at the very least provide some way for long-term players to preserve and access what we have spent so many years building.

  • why none of the staff or anyone of Gameforge that takes care of KingsAge is here to answer or just talk to us?

Strange that they don' even care to give explanations and save their face.

Maybe they have fired them as here they will close everything?

if you look at the ballance of Gameforge 2024 the result is

Gameforge AG reported the following figures for 2024:

    • Equity: approximately €99.4 million
    • Total assets: approximately €102.6 million
    • Liabilities: only around €2.5 million
    • Retained earnings: approximately €93.5 million
    • Of this, around €90.4 million consisted of profit carried forward from previous years.

This represents a very comfortable equity and liquidity position. Gameforge AG is also still registered as an active company, and its 2024 annual financial statements were only published in January 2026.

In 2025 and 2026 haven`t been that much changes so Gameforge makes more profit as many other companys. Regarding that makes it even more for me not understanding to close everything.

Gameforge has about 300 employees whih makes expensions about 1,5Mio in a year plus some better paied persons. sherholders etc. Lets say 2.5 millions a year. for all games not just kingsage. Folks I am a real conservative person, but this looks like that Gameforge wants to squeeze the games like a lemon until the last drop. Forgetting that most of the members won`t change to newer servers and spend their money.

And this game is no rocket science with multible 3D Features. Maintanance is against zero I guess. Unbelievable from my point of view.

And I agree - why does the Management doesn`t post their point of view ? That would be some kind of basic respect for the players who pay their monthly wages buying crowns. Very sad that that is not happening

  • WOW bravo to you that went to see the financial status og GF and made a simple accountant report!

At this point I have a bad idea, either thay are ready to sell KingsAge, as their management saw the complete lost compared to his natural competitor that is tribal, they decided to cover their uncapacity with a black carpet.

So much profit and they want more, the genius manager that proposed this closer, will have a promotion equal to the money they will save?

More or less €50000?? don't think so, is too much to give it all to 1 person!

Terrible management, terrible reputation to all the company!

Or... they have hired a tribal high manager and as he always lost in KA he is having his revenge closing the old servers and abandoning KA to the 70, 80 years old players (hoping they will die so to close it) HAHAHAHA

and I didn't like at all the image of the settlers sent away from the town, is very unappropriate nowdays!

    SHAME ON YOU!

    but nobody will read this!

  • I rather think Gamforge had external Advisors. And they asked without even playing the game.. Oh you have so many Servers with not that "much" traffic like on the new ones. So you can shut them all down.

Well, I think the maintanence of the worlds/serves doesn`t cost them too much. No devellopment needen - just let it run.

They close appr 250 Servers and let in average play 10 players per world who have the premium - that makes about 50 Euros per Person per year.

so 500 Euros per world/server. 250 Servers - makes 125k income for Gameforge + new servers. maybe 150k Euros. for an external advisor that is peanuts. but as mentioned before - it is still interesting that the management doesn`t comment on this. They don`t care about players - everybody should keep that in mind for other games of Gameforge

It is not so strange that Gameforge is uninterested in the players. I played in Zero Tolerance, an alliance in W6 on the US server. At the end of that world, mid 2012 , the alliance leader , Dan /Avowed , actually got in contact with the lead guy at gameforge. Dan is an mechanical engineer from Madosin. He said he talked with him for about 15 minutes and the "guy" knew absolutely nothing about the game or evn any componets thereof.

Not long after most of Zero Tolerance had quit the server, as we had control of just less than 99% of all setts in that world. Most of them figured out that if the the " lead" of management did not give a damn , the underlings would have much the same opinion......

FYI , a cool room for servers can get very expensive , chillers , piping and coolant/ water etc. Can take a lot to maintain and use , but if done regularly, its not overwhelming. Not with the construction technics available today.

  • I think the same, they bought the basic game from tribals and made an evolution with better atmosphere, colors and a bit of innovative rules, but that was it. Afterwards thay had to make changelogs for the evolutions of PC, tablets, smart phones, but nothing else and they thought to earn money adding all that crap they added with the weel of fortune, but in reality they killed the game. Yes because to keep it fair they had to put premium and money as weel and playes from 2009 as me, don't spend real money as I have 650 stones to turn the wheel, 1000 gold coins to spend and more than 1 year of premium adding 90,30 and 8 days! (yes I was hitting everyday a village dedicated for all the alliance to make us earn stone) so for sure the old servers were €0,0 earning!! Yes because with more than 5000 villages is impossible to survive without premium!

But is their problem, they should have changed the wheel or other so to make us pay, but if they don't care of a game, why bother?

Anyway, I expect also they will clean all the forum after, closing and deleting old discussions and also this!

killers have to hide the proofs of their crime.

To be correct with us, it would be enough to externalize old servers and pay a simple rent of hosting.

Maybe a phonecall to AWS is too expensive for them.

  • I agree, and if we talk about servers it is not like in a normal company where a server is at every facility. It`s a German Company and this game doesn`t need much Server Capacity. They host that at their place for all the games for sure. The Problem is that very few players put comments here in the Forum. So the management says.. ok 5 6 persons wont change to new worlds. why should we care ?

I have 6000 + villages in German "Server" 7 and many spots to conquer. No one on tis world will start new again.

So as mentioned before this is the end of the game - for players and gameforge. The only way to make a game changer would be if more players who think the sme way post here their opinion not to spend money in new worlds. So I would encourage every Ally Leader on world xy rapidly to post here their opinion. In Gameforge speak - to get traffic here. Otherwise no chance

  • If there is very little PvP activity on any of the old servers then I agree with the decision to close an old one down if it means it reduces man hours to maintain the servers. Taking abandoned villages every day as you buy armour is not real activity.

I disagree. Many of the people still playing on the older servers have invested years, if not decades, building their accounts. Closing those servers simply because PvP activity is low disregards the time and effort those players have invested, especially when there are still active players who want to continue.

I can understand closing a server that genuinely has no active players, but low PvP activity does not mean that a server is abandoned. There are still a number of active players on my server, yet it is scheduled to be closed despite players asking for it to remain available. To me, that is very different from shutting down an empty server.

  • this is not a shooter game, old maps of the old games can be closed, but there are people that log on every day to some servers, there are people that have spend days and night to play this game as it was made such that your presence was needed to survive! And now because someone has won the server we should shut it down? No it is fooling players like this.

And Cleopatra, you were and you are a high tech in programming, but think of what you suggest, many people will lose jobs like that and is you extend your way of thinking it will be a disaster. Even if it is not related, in my home town they applied your thought and so when they did the new hospital as there had been less used rooms of hospital inpatient, and more need for emergency department facilities, they built a bigger emergency facilities, with more beds taking them from the inpatient facilities. You know then what happend? Sars arrived, Covid-19 made us to reopen part of the old hosital as people were dying because of the lack of beds!

Of course this is not our case, but to think as you do, is a bad way of thinking.

You should suggest ways of making alive old servers, inventing something like merging 2 servers together, like reducing numbers in an ally, so to make them split, like giving to new comers a bonus of 50, 80, 100 villages and protection for 1 month, so to make new player decide to get in and try to fight! think of something instead of closing!

Closing is a declaration of FAILURE, the programmers' surrender to a lack of imagination.

Poor life if you loose imagination, poorer life if only money matters!

  • Cleopatra - thats the problem - Gameforge looks at traffic from the point of view how much crowns/coins are spent on each server. The player looks how much time he spends per day. f.e Server DE7. There are only some players left. But many villages to conquer. There is from players sight traffic on the server. I am online there f.e every day.

Maintanece is not the problem if you let servers run just like that. Sometimes a security patch which goes automatically over all worlds - thats it. The costs are scalable at a minimum as we are not talking about high end 3d applications.

Much better would have been to look how much a coin has to cost due to traffic on the server that is affordable for Gameforge. If only one player is active the coin costs 500 Euros. Then the problem will for this world disappear

What happens now is after shuting all down that Gameforge will not only loose the members on the KIngsage Servers but also on other games, because no player can be sure that efforts for example one year playing will be ended by gameforge on the next day.

  • Good Miki6!

    find a solution

don't just close, as it means that you will behave the same to every circumstance that will happen next.

There is a problem in the server, how much will it cost me to solve it? is more than what they payed last month? then close it!

The game can be relounched with new rules or some changes? YES! is it a good investment? well consider how many people played this game, YES!

But after what you did, you think players will come back here? or new players will not know what you did to us?

Are we Fool to play this game or is Fool to decide this shutdown?

    Be Fool to remain Sain!

keep it open and if you don't want to think a solution, listen to our suggestions and you will return to have thousands of players!

    • Hi Nightmare, thank you for having the FAQ updated. I have now read the new wording carefully.

Unfortunately, the update does not resolve my concern; rather, it appears to confirm a much more serious issue.

The previous wording only stated that premium currency/items already used would not be reimbursed. The updated FAQ now states that purchased items or premium content will not be refunded, including premium items or features that are already active or have been obtained through other means.

I have now checked six of my accounts on affected servers. They currently contain only 1,493 Crowns as Crown balances, but approximately 23,057 Crowns worth of unused premium items, plus 1,667 days of Premium Account already activated on IT46.

This means that the premium value which would disappear under the updated interpretation is many times greater than the Crown balance that would be compensated. Based on my purchases, the amount involved is potentially a four-figure euro value, and I am continuing to document it precisely.

I therefore cannot regard the solution described in the updated FAQ as acceptable without further clarification and review.

In particular, I do not understand on what basis 1,667 future days of Premium Account service can be treated as already used merely because the Premium Account has been activated. Those days have not yet been consumed and will become unusable only because the server itself is being permanently closed.

There is also the issue of unused premium items. Many of these were obtained through the official Wheel of Fortune, which can be funded through different acquisition routes. The current wording appears simply to exclude all such remaining premium content instead of determining which part represents premium value originally acquired through purchased Crowns.

There is an additional point I would ask Gameforge to address. During the 2024 KingsAge currency-system change, Gameforge's official FAQ expressly stated that existing premium items would be removed and their value reimbursed by coupon, while only premium currency or premium items that had already been used would not be reimbursed.

Could you therefore please ask the responsible Gameforge department to clarify:

What contractual basis allows currently unused premium items and still-unconsumed future premium-service time to be deleted without compensation when these servers are closed, and why is the compensation method for existing premium items now different from the method Gameforge itself used in 2024?

I would also ask that this be reviewed before the server closures rather than only after the affected premium content has been permanently deleted.

      Thank you.
